What is the Proof that Allah is our Lord?
Asalamu’alaikum,
This is an essay that my Brother, Hyder, and I worked on for a class we were taking at on “Tawheed” given by Imam Ashur at the Islamic Society of Vaughan this fall.
We were asked to answer the question, “What is the Proof that Allah is our Lord?”
We worked on this together, this is what we came up with!
Allah is the best at proving that He is our One and Only Lord!
Allah is in our intellect. If we think about creation and our own existence we know that there must be a higher power that created us in such perfection. When you look at your hands, your body, the food you eat and how complex it is, then you know that there must be a creator. Everything in the world has a creator. A building has a builder, a machine has an engineer, so the universe cannot come from nothing, it makes no sense.
Now that I know there is a Creator, the Quran itself is full of signs that Allah exists and is the True god. Especially now that many researchers have discovered the things that were written in the Quran more than 1400 years ago. The things that Allah has revealed have to come from the One who created everything. Thus, the Quran itself is a sign that Allah exists and He is our Lord!
From Creation:
In the creation of the heavens and earth and in the succession of day and night there are certainly signs for those who reflect. Those who remember God while standing, sitting, and laying down and ponder on the creation of the heavens and the earth, saying: Our Lord you have not created this in vain. Glory be to You. Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire. (Quran Al Imran 3:190-191)
Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain. (Quran At Tur 52:35-36)
“Soon We will show them our signs in the (farthest) regions (of the earth), and in their own souls, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the Truth. Is it not enough that thy Lord doth witness all things?” (Al-Quran Fussilat 41:53)
God’s signs in nature are emphasized in the Surah called An-Nahl, “The Bee”, some of these are:
“It is He who sends down water from the sky. From it you drink and from it come the shrubs among which you graze your herds. And by it He makes crops grow for you and olives and dates and grapes and fruit of every kind. Therein is certainly a sign in that for people who reflect. He has made the night and the day subservient to you, and the sun, the moon and the stars, all subject to His command. Therein are certainly signs in that for people who use their intellect. And also, the things of varying colors He has created for you in the earth. There is certainly a sign in that for people who pay heed. It is He who made the sea subservient to you so that you can eat fresh flesh from it and bring out from it ornaments to wear. And you see the ships cleaving through it so that you can seek His bounty, and so that perhaps you may show thanks. He cast firmly embedded mountains on the earth so it would not move under you, and rivers, pathways, and landmarks so that perhaps you might be guided. And they are guided by the stars. Is He Who creates like him who does not create? O will you not pay heed?”(Quran Al Nahl 16:10-17)
The Quran is amazing for the fact that it is doing its own Dawah through time, as man goes deeper into the universe and discovers new things, they can be directly related to the verses that Allah revealed.
This can be proven from the hundreds of signs that Allah revealed in the Quran, that Science now claims to know about in the past 50 years or so. Some are:
How the baby is made in the Mom’s stomach:
And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay. Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators. (Quran Al Muminun, 23:12-14)
The Big Bang:
Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe? (Quran Al Anbiya, 21:30)
The Mountains as pegs, so that the earth doesn’t move and stays firm in formation:
“Have We not made the earth as a bed, And the mountains as pegs?” [Quran an-Naba’ 78:6-7]
Still need more Proof:
Signs in the proofs He leaves of those He punished for disbelieving and spreading mischief, like Pharaoh’s body, ruins of the Pyramids and cities in Egypt:
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], “Worship Allah and avoid Taghut.” And among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers. (Quran An Nahl, 16:36)
When Pharoh realized he was drowning he tried to make Shahada, but Allah says:
“What, now! When previously you rebelled and were one of the corrupters? Today we will preserve your body so you can be a Sign for people who come after you. Surely many people are heedless of Our Signs.” (Quran Yunus, 10:91-92]
The body of Pharaoh has been discovered. He is Ramses and there is evidence from scans done on his body in France that he was drowned. This is Allah’s sign and His promise come true.
Really, we have to think like Ibrahim AS about the heavens and the earth and who could have created them? When everyone around him worshipped idols and his father made idols, he used his intellect and thought about these things. He was only 15 or so, but he thought deeply about whom he should worship. He looked around himself and at what the people were doing to see if it made any sense to worship idols made from their own hands that couldn’t bring them any good or do them any harm. If we also looked at our surroundings like Ibrahim (AS), we would discover that the signs of Allah are within our creation and the creation of the earth. Like our bodies, nature and the heavens.
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) took a similar journey into the unknown by using his intellect. He studied his surroundings in the isolation of the Cave of Hira and realized that there has to be a Higher Power in the universe, because when man is left to himself without the guidance of His Creator, he goes astray and turns to evil, like the Quraysh had done. That is when Allah spoke to him through Jibreel (AS) and began revealing the Quran to him.
The Quran helps us to look deeper into the creation and proves Allah and His existence very clearly. Nothing else makes any sense like Allah does. That is why we should worship only Him and not associate any partners with Him.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham said to his father Azar, “Do you take idols as deities? Indeed, I see you and your people to be in manifest error.” And thus did We show Abraham the realm of the heavens and the earth that he would be among the certain [in faith]. So when the night covered him [with darkness], he saw a star. He said, “This is my lord.” But when it set, he said, “I like not those that disappear.” And when he saw the moon rising, he said, “This is my lord.” But when it set, he said, “Unless my Lord guides me, I will surely be among the people gone astray.” And when he saw the sun rising, he said, “This is my lord; this is greater.” But when it set, he said, “O my people, indeed I am free from what you associate with Allah. Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allah .” (Quran Al An’am, 6:74-79)
